Faculty of Sport Sciences
In the name of the one who taught your mind
Physical education is a field that uses various sciences to strengthen and train the body and mind. This field is linked to basic sciences, medical sciences and health on the one hand, and to various sports and movement disciplines on the other hand, so that it can work by training sports specialists in three dimensions: public sports with the aim of improving health and preventing diseases caused by inactivity, championship sports with the aim of improving the quality of sports skills and winning competitions, and also the movement therapy dimension with the aim of rehabilitation; rehabilitation of people who have musculoskeletal problems caused by motor poverty or who require motor rehabilitation after surgery.
The Faculty of Physical Education of Bu Ali University was established in the Faculty of Literature and Humanities with the approval of the Supreme Council of Development in 1980, and the first group of undergraduate students were admitted in 1993. Due to the follow-up and efforts of the professors, the first admission of students to the master's degree in general orientation was completed in 1996. In 2008, with the separation of the master's degree programs, these students were admitted to 4 majors: sports biomechanics, sports pathology and corrective movements, sports physiology, and sports management.
In 2009, this faculty succeeded in admitting the first doctoral students in sports biomechanics. After a year, doctoral students were admitted in the fields of sports pathology and corrective movements, sports physiology, and sports management.
On July 21, 2013, with the license number 2/22/61690, the High Council for the Development of the Faculty of Physical Education separated from the Faculty of Literature and Humanities and began to operate independently. The deanship of this faculty was first given to Dr. Mehrdad Anbarian on February 10, 2013, by a decree from the university's president. After three years, the university's president introduced Dr. Ali Yalfani as the deanship of the faculty on August 13, 2016. Dr. Yelfani is currently in charge of this responsibility. The per capita indoor space of the university is 0.5 meters and the per capita outdoor space is about one meter. According to the standards, this amount should be doubled, and the amount of outdoor space should be in a suitable proportion. Most of the outdoor spaces are available to male students, and women, in compliance with Islamic standards, cannot use these spaces and are required to practice in indoor spaces and halls.
Due to the establishment of the Sports Sciences site in the Humanities site, in cooperation with the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, students jointly use the computer site, library, and other facilities.
This faculty initially started with 15 faculty members, and due to the transfer of 3 members and the recruitment of 1 person in the field of sports management, it currently has 15 members, of whom 3 are professors, 3 associate professors, and 7 have the academic rank of assistant professor. The Faculty of Sports Sciences of the University is divided into three subgroups: Sports Pathology and Biomechanics, Management and Motor Learning, and Physiology, which have 5, 3, and 4 members, respectively. The number of articles published by faculty members in 2016 was 96 articles, of which 11 are ISI. This statistic represents an average of 8 articles per faculty member, which is a relatively good average considering the recruitment of 4 new or newly graduated staff.
30% of the faculty members are women. Given the existence of numerous practical units and the acceptance of about 57% of female students, the faculty is forced to collaborate with visiting professors, which is important considering the overall goal of this field, promoting specialization in this field, especially among women. In addition to specialized classes in the field of physical education, this faculty also offers all general physical education units in other fields.
Bu Ali University has two sports journals, Sports Rehabilitation and Sports Management, and both journals are peer-reviewed.
